1. Approval of minutes from last meeting Minutes were approved. 2. Regular meeting COB date It was decided that the committee would meet on the 1st Monday of the month every 3 months. Next committee meeting will be Monday 1/09/08. 3. Road race report (Phil & Mike) Well organised event; excellent feedback from the riders and the BCF. It was described by many as ‘a bit hilly!’. Marshalling was well organised and a big THANK YOU to all those members (and non-members) who turned up to help marshal. (22 in total).
Mike Stephens did a race report. Following this we have decided to look into buying some Bibs, arrows and flags for marshals and directions which will belong to the club.
A second support vehicle was suggested to remain at the base which could be called to collect injured riders allowing the emergency vehicle to remain on the course.
The motorcycle support (Dave Perks) was a great success and we discussed having a 2nd motorcycle next year. A Big THANK YOU to Dave Perks…. You were a star!!!!
A new location for 2009 COB RR was discussed, closer to Hereford. Various suggestions were made. It was decided that all committee members could bring ideas to the next meeting as the course needs to be submitted to the BCF/ Police by Sept 2008. Any COB members who have ideas or suggestions to let us know. (Left hand turns preferred & quiet roads).
It was also discussed expanding the event to include 1st & 2nd cat riders. Two races can occur on the same circuit (1/2 cat and 3/4/J/W cats). This will be explored at the next meeting.
We raised £1105.50 from the COB Road race, costs were £671.99 so we made a profit of £433.51. It was decided that £100 of this should go the COB team account and the remaining £333.51 into the COB Club account.
4. What do we offer current COB members? A few members have asked this question. We want our members to feel proud of supporting their local club, but also feel that they are getting something back for all the efforts they put in to raising money for their club.
Currently we offer:
• Club Kit at trade price from COB shop • 12.5% off prices at COB shop (not inc. sale stuff) • Up to 10% off at CSS computer supplies (that’s Tony, the Vice-chair of the COBCC committee). • Discount at Barbara Preece Sports Massages. • Club BCF race affiliation • COB Club Sunday Morning Road Rides from Steels at 9am (Early Spring through to Late Autumn) • COB Club rides on Saturdays. Clive & Helen (COB Shop) have kindly offered to help subsidise these event along with money from your club account. You will be able to ride FREE at each of these events (as long as you are a current member). The only thing you may have to pay for will the cost of hiring a track bike if you don’t have one (£7).
• Prize Draw for all Marshals at COB Club Events The COB Road Race and COB Triathlon. Both of these events can only run successfully with the help of volunteers to help marshal the events. In our attempt to say Thank you we will organise a prize draw into which any member who marshals at these events will be entered. They’ll be lots of prizes available and it’ll be drawn at the COB Xmas meal.
• COB Xmas Meal We hope to subsidise the cost of the Xmas meal this year, to make it an even more enjoyable event A new location is also being planned.

5. Promoting the COB Club How do we promote the club? How do we encourage more members to join us?
At COB shop leaflets are routinely handed to customers buying bikes which gives details about our club website information, contacts etc.
New riders who turn up on Tuesday evening and Saturday rides can be introduced to the club via current members. 6. Autumn COB Reliability Ride Planned for a weekend in Oct 2008. It was also suggested to organise a COB Cyclosportive event in February 2009. Clive & Robin are going to look into this. 7. COB Xmas Meal Venue In the past we have held this event at the Hickory Stick in Leominster. A few suggestions were made about alternative locations. One of them included the River Bed at Fownhope. They have offered a Xmas meal for £15.75@ for 80-90 people (provisional date 9/12/08). Other options could be the Belmont Golf club.
8. Social Evening, Curry Night The curry night after the COB RR went well, there were about 20 people and the food was great. Thanks Ben. 9.
