Summary of Year

The Chair gave a brief summary of the highlights of the year, including; events organised by the COB club (road race, triathlon, 2 reliability rides, velodrome sessions, MTB group rides), the club’s contributions to charity (St Micheals hospice) & our excellent Club Christmas dinner. He praised our members for their invaluable support marshalling at club events and the improved ethos of our club. The Chair also thanked his fellow committee members for all their voluntary hard work.

Treasures report

Stu gave a summary of the accounts & presented a balance of £2150.54, an increase of £867.13 on last years closing balance. There also remains a payment due from the 2008 Ludlow triathlon.

Membership report

Kate gave a summary of the membership. Current membership stands at 89, an increase of 9 members on last year. Kate also outlined our new agreed system of membership running from Jan 2009 to Jan 2010.

All memberships are now due (Jan 2009) lasting 12 mths to the end of Jan 2010.

The exception to this is members who have paid their subs in Oct, Nov or Dec 2008. Their membership will automatically be extended to end Jan 2010 (assuming these subs were paid on time).

Future Plans COBCC 2009 (Open Discussion)

New events

Ned Potter expressed an interest in organising a COBCC Hill Climb Championship in Bredwardine Autumn 2009. He also suggested a COBCC Cyclocross race in Winter 2010-11.

Affiliations

Ned Potter suggested we approach Liz Slater of the Welsh Cyclocross association with a request to affiliate to them and therefore be allowed to gain points in their league and compete in their Championships. Ned agreed to contact Liz.

Socials

Paul Gibbons suggested that we hold club committee meetings at a pub to encourage socialising. This will need to be discussed at the next committee meeting. Our COBCC meetings run from 7-9.30pm on the first Monday every 2mths.

MTB rides

Paul Gibbons & Andy Weaving agreed to coordinate & organise some mtb rides throughout 2009. They also agreed to encourage some other members to organise MTB rides around Hereford region.

Velodrome sessions

A number of COBCC members felt that the organised COBCC velodrome sessions were excellent and hoped that they could be repeated next year.

Hereford COBCC Time Trial Trophy

Luke Bradford suggested that the award of the COBCC TT trophy 2009 should reflect participation in addition to performance. He agreed to organise the club competition.

Hereford Wheelers Time Trial events

Mick Stephens agreed to approach Chris Hughes of Hereford Wheelers in an attempt to negotiate a COBCC reduced rate for bulk entries into their Time Trial events. The COBCC committee may subsidise these entries after discussion at their next meeting.

Event Organising Equipment

It was suggested that we purchase a set of our own race/event equipment including race numbers, clocks, signs, flags etc. In the past we have borrowed from other clubs. The approximate cost was thought to be in the region of £400. This will be discussed again at our next meeting.

COBCC Cylco-Sportive

A number of members suggested that we organise a Sportive Event. Cost, Time & Marshalling implications were discussed. One option could be to expand our Autumn Reliability ride into a Sportive event. Robin Jones agreed to pursue this.

Family rides

It was suggested by some members that we need to offer more to our younger members. Child protection & safety implications were discussed.

Tony Vaughan & Paul Gibbons agreed to organise some group family MTB rides. Parents will be able to bring their children along to these family rides.

Youth members/CTC scheme

Tim Wintour is investigating funding from the CTC and Herefordshire CC to develop youth cycling in Hereford.

COBCC Nominated Charity

It was agreed that St Michael’s Hospice would be the official COBCC partner charity for 2009. Robin agreed to coordinate with the Hospice & potentially link up for their summer charity bike ride.

AOB

RR team.

Clive announced that he would coordinate a COBCC events team who would target some RR with the aim of riding together as a team.

He invited anyone interested in participating in this to speak to him.

BTA.

Luke Bradford asked about affiliation to the BTA. He informed us that the club contains a number of international triathletes who would happily race for COBCC if the club were affiliated to the BTA.

Phil Mason

Helen Beacon thanked Phil for all his contributions to the club and wished him well in his travels to Australia. This was echoed by the Chair & all members.

GOOD LUCK PHIL!
